THE mother of a hit and run victim has issued a plea for help after her son was mowed down by a driver in Great Sankey.

Caroline Hughes, from Great Sankey, knows how lucky she is that her son has survived the hit and run but is determined to see the culprit brought to justice.

Her 19-year-old son Paul and her 54-year-old husband, also called Paul, were walking back from Chapelford Farm at 9.45pm yesterday, Wednesday, when the incident happened.

The car struck Paul as he made his way over a zebra crossing on Tankersley Grove, Great Sankey, pushing him onto the bonnet before he came crashing down the ground.

The car then sped off, leaving Paul lying on the ground.

Caroline, aged 54, said: "It could have been much worse.

"If they had hit an elderly person or a child they could have been seriously hurt or killed.

"A young child certainly could have been killed at that speed."

Following the incident, his shocked father rushed to his son's aid and the emergency services were called.

Paul, who works as a mechanic, was taken to hospital but miraculously only suffered bruising.

Caroline is now left wondering what was going through the driver's mind when they woke-up this morning.

She said: "They could be waking up today and wondering if the person had been killed.

"I would just like to say to whoever did this that it takes a bigger person to own up to what you have done."

Police are now looking for the motorist who is believed to have been driving a white Audi A3.

It is understood there was a dent to the front passenger side of the bumper and one of the wing mirrors was hanging off.

Caroline has called for mechanics and car dealers to keep an eye out for cars matching this description and for any members of the public who were around the area at the time to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing and police are currently following a number of lines on enquiry.

Anyone with information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting crime reference number 1019 of April 22 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
