HUNDREDS of vinyl collectors got into the groove to support Record Store Day in Warrington on Saturday.

Queues began forming before 6am at the Head in Golden Square Shopping Centre with fans waiting to get their hands on limited edition records.

A number of bands including former Warrington Music Festival headliner Roughneck Riot also played acoustic sets during the celebration.

Simon Anderson, a customer services advisor from Great Sankey, said: "The thing is with vinyl it takes you back to your youth.

"I love the feel of a record and the sound is, in my opinion, so much better."

Sales director Mike O’Brien, from Newton, added: "I’ve been collecting records for more than 40 years and now have more than 1,000 albums.

"Real collectors like the originality you get with vinyl.

Ian Cox, Golden Square manager, said: "It’s good to see that there is such a growing interest in vinyl records, which is expected to increase by 70 per cent this year, plus there is now a new vinyl singles chart each week."
