STAFF, pupils and visitors can toast 65 years of Warrington's university campus next month.

The University of Chester’s Padgate Campus will be throwing open its doors in celebration next month with current and former students, staff and members of the public invited to take a look behind the scenes to see what is on offer to students in 2015.

It comes as the University of Chester commemorates its 175th anniversary this year, with visitors invited to explore the facilities and experience a day-in-the-life of a student, listening to short talks and lectures as well as join in interactive sessions from the seven academic departments based at the Padgate Campus on May 30.

Professor Peter Harrop, pro-vice chancellor, said: “The Warrington Campus combines the best of long-established university traditions with up-to-the-minute modern developments.

“We will be proud to give visitors an insight into university life. At Warrington, the University provides a close knit community campus offering innovative, forward-looking courses with a close eye on employability.

“The Warrington Campus features a dynamic creative industries hub, which includes the state-of-the-art North West Media Centre and it’s also home to the highly successful Warrington Wolves Sporting Academy.

“We have a lot to boast about and welcome the opportunity to show people."

For many years, the Warrington Campus site was associated with the Institute of Education of the University of Manchester, later with North Cheshire College and subsequently, Warrington Collegiate.

The University of Chester acquired the site at the millennium and the campus is now a centre for teaching and research in business, media, sport and public service.

It covers more than 30 acres, has on-site accommodation, catering, sport and leisure facilities – and even its own student-run radio station.

Anniversary-day celebrations include a range of fun sporting activities.

For example, past students will be taking-on current students in netball, football, hockey and rugby.

Anyone interested in nursing can enjoy a practical session in the campus laboratories, and amateur sleuths can get involved in activities at the policing investigation centre.
