A MUM is calling for answers after her daughter was sent home from school with an unexplained five-inch gash to her leg.

Susanne Firth says her daughter Sheridan has got no idea how she received the injury at the University Academy Warrington on Thursday.

But after being taken to Warrington Hospital, nurses told the 13-year-old the nature of the cut means it must have been deliberate and Sheridan was cut with a blade.

Susanne says she is disappointed, after contacting the school around 2pm the same day, pupils were not stopped and bags were not checked for any bladed items.

She added: "She was walking down a busy corridor in school and put her hand down her leg because she could feel something wet.

"She pulled her tights down to see loads of blood.

"Staff at the hospital said it was too straight and clean a cut for her to have caught herself on something sticking out of wall.

"The school should have come to a standstill to find out what it was."

A spokesman for University Academy Warrington and UCAT said: "An alleged incident is being investigated at University Academy Warrington in accordance with the school's procedures.

"We are unable to comment any further at this stage."
