A GROUP of young parents who are returning to education, training or employment have received the backing of the council under a new scheme.

'Parenting Project' is a weekly group meeting held at Warrington Collegiate aimed at young parents that are looking to build their confidence and increase their employability with members working towards a Level 1 qualification in parenting.

Chris Rowe, senior lecturer in child development at Warrington Collegiate, said: “This is a lovely project. It gives the parents a meeting place where they socialise alongside learning in an informal manner.

"It is also a great experience for the child care students who care for the babies and young children.”

The sessions are also attended by one of the council’s education and employment advisors who give careers advice and guidance.

New members can join at any time with the extra benefit of not having to worry about childcare arrangement as this is taken care of free of charge.

Katie Nolan, who started attending the course when she found out she was pregnant and now attends with her son aged seven-months-old, said: “I really enjoy coming to the group.

"This course has changed me in a really good way.

"When I first started I didn’t know what I was doing and what to expect but now I feel I know a lot more.”

The Parenting Project runs every Wednesday afternoon 1.15 to 4.15pm at Warrington Collegiate.
