STAFF from Flextronics Warrington are set to show they are on the ball with a charity match against star-studded opposition.

The Appleton-based company will go head-to-head with stars of the Chester-based soap Hollyoaks to raise money for the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity on April 30.

With specialist coaching from Warrington Town FC manager, Shaun Reid, Flextronics will be put through their paces with a variety of training sessions.

Actor Nick Pickard, who plays Tony Hutchinson in the soap, has helped to organise the event along with Joe Hitchmough, MRO buyer at Flextronics.

Entertainment on the day will be provided by Golborne brass band and a half-time performance from dance group, Wigan Supreme Starlights Cheerleaders while retired Premier League referee Mark Halsey will be in charge on the day.

Mr Hitchmough said: “We wanted to do something family-friendly and fun which would raise money for Clatterbridge, so we came up with the idea of a charity football match and hoped that we could get some local celebrities to take part.”

All profits raised will be donated to Clatterbridge, which currently treats more than 30,000 patients annually across nine centres across the north west.

Jade Barret, area fundraising manager, said: “The event will help us to fund vital cancer research projects, equipment and support that would otherwise be unavailable.

“We cannot thank the two teams and everybody buying tickets enough for their support, you are making a huge difference to the lives of local cancer patients.”

Ticket prices range from £2.50 for a child, £5 for adults and £14 for a family ticket. For more information call 260870.
