THE first phase of the council's project to transform parks in the town is on schedule to be completed this autumn.

The 'Your Parks, Our Parks' programme, designed to work alongside residents to improve and regenerate Warrington's parks and spaces, got underway last year.

Improvements to Victoria Park, Sankey Valley Park, Walton Park and Bank Park are part of the scheme's framework for growth.

It includes the creation of a new 300-seat sports stand and community hub at Victoria Park, woodland maintenance at Sankey Valley Park and new toilets at the Walton site.

Victoria Park is being tipped to be one of the north west's leading sports facilities when construction is complete in autumn.

Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, is backing the development work to continue operating on schedule.

"The first phase of Warrington Borough Council’s vision to transform Warrington’s parks is now nearing completion – just in time for summer – providing Warrington’s communities with a wide range of high quality outdoor sporting and leisure facilities for everyone to enjoy," she said.

The programme is also focusing on smaller parks in the town, with improvements to children’s play areas, footpaths and woodland works being targeted.
