A WHITTLE Hall councillor says he is delighted to see a new path open in Chapelford which he hopes will ease residents' concerns over the opening of an outdoor gym.

Fears were raised by Cheltenham Close residents over anti-social behaviour in Our Wood after it was opened in the autumn last year.

But cllr Faisal Rashid believes a new path which will run straight through Our Wood to the gym facilities will solve any problems.

He added: "When we opened Our Wood a few residents were concerned about lots of youths coming through it and using the back alley.

"I promised them at the time I would look at it and create a new path.
"It's taken two or three years but the good news is the council has not had to put any money towards it and David Wilson Homes has covered the cost.

"My promise with the residents of Cheltenham close is fulfilled."

Summer fun

GET June 20 in your diary as plans get underway for this year's Great Sankey Summer Fun Day.

Great Sankey Parish Council is helping to organise the day at Sankey Valley St James Primary School following last year's successful event.

And they have promised to aim for an 'even bigger day' in 2015.

Anyone who would like to book a stall should contact Lynne Brereton at Great Sankey Parish Council on 712279.

Time for a prune

GREEN-FINGERED residents will be delighted to know the topic of the next meeting of the Sankey and Penketh Gardening Society is 'What you need to know about pruning'.

Speaker Marguerite Hughes will be giving a talk and slides on the subject on April 2 at 7.30pm.

Members are reminded the group now meets at The Olive Tree, on Chapel Road, and they need to ring the bell for the lift to first floor.

Get on your bike

A GREAT Sankey-based cause is calling on residents to get in the saddle with their family and friends this summer.

Warrington Youth Club, based at the Peace Centre, is looking for supporters to take part in the Big Bike Ride 2015 on July 5 which calls on riders to pedal 100km in one day.

The charity is asking each person that takes part to raise £100, or more, and the challenge can be completed individually or in teams at gym classes or even on a static/exercise bike at home or at work.

Egg-cellent ideas

TEACHERS at Penketh High School said an Easter-themed enterprise day was full of egg-citement for pupils.

The Heath Road school held the Dragons' Den-style event for year 7 pupils calling on them to create packaging for an Easter egg and design a company logo in groups of four.

A spokesman added: "The day was filled with excitement as the pupils focused creating their designs ready to sell to the Dragons' Den team with the eventual winner convincing the school's dragons to invest 90 per cent into their company."

Pupil Toby Good-Marsh added: ''I found the day exciting and really enjoyed being an entrepreneur like Richard Branson."

More enterprise days will be organised in the future 'focusing on invention, creativity and how to run your own business'.
