FRUSTRATED cyclists at Warrington Central station have reported a £35,000 bike ramp, which was unveiled last week, is actually fairly useless.

Passengers had been encouraged to park and ride after train operator First TransPennine Express revealed the costly new 'multi-use cycle parking systems' and cycle wheeling ramps.

But on Tuesday morning cyclists found the ramps were too close to the wall to wheel a bike along them.

Dan Peers tweeted: "Great to see new bike racks at Central. Shame the ramps are too close to the wall to use."

And it is not just Warrington where this problem has occurred as reports have suggested 'bicycle gutters' had to be removed from a station in Cambridge after being installed too close to the handrails.

Billy Vickers, station manager, said: "The cycle ramps were installed as part of a wider multi thousand pound investment into developing cycle-rail facilities at the station, including brand new new cycle racks. The ramps help people carry their cycles up and down the stairs.

"While the stairwells at Warrington Central are narrower than those at many other stations, we have made best use of the space available and they have been installed in line with existing cycle-rail guidance.

"We are committed to enhancing our stations to ensure customers benefit from a truly integrated travel experience, and welcome all feedback and suggestions for improvements that our customers may have. We have to date not received any complaints through our customer relations teams. "
