A TEENAGER accused of supplying drugs to 16-year-old school girl Ellie Jones has denied any knowledge of the Class A drugs found in the house where she died.

The St Gregory's High pupil had difficulty breathing after taking PMA on May 17, 2013 and was rushed to hospital but sadly could not be resuscitated.

A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with two counts of supplying Class A drugs to Ellie and a boy who was 15-years-old at the time and appeared in Halton Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The trial heard a group of teens aged 15 and 16, the defendant and Ellie had been drinking beer and vodka in a flat in Dallam before they were told to leave and moved to a house on Densham Avenue.

Mrs Newton, prosecuting, said more alcohol was bought en route by an unknown adult who they had asked to go to the shop for them.

She added: "Shortly before they arrived at the shop one of the witnesses overheard a conversation where Ellie had said to the defendant she only had £5 and a discussion took place in which the defendant said it was okay to give him the remainder of the money the next day.

"It is the witnesses' view they were talking about buying drugs and a short time after that the defendant left the group saying that he was nipping around the corner.

"That was his opportunity to go and obtain drugs."

The group carried on drinking on Densham Avenue with the defendant described taking a clear plastic bag containing white powder out of the bottom fridge freezer drawer and was seen with it regularly during the evening.

Mrs Newton added: "It's the crown's case the defendant was dishing out this drug and would take an amount out of it, wrap it in a cigarette paper and swallow it whole, known as a bomb, several times.

"The prosecution witnesses also said he was offering the drug in particular to Ellie Jones who took several of these bombs as described."

A boy, who was aged 15 at the time, was also offered the drug several times and eventually swallowed the substance, the court heard.

Later in the night, Mrs Newton said Ellie and the defendant looked increasingly intoxicated and Ellie was described by witnesses as stumbling and swaying.

Her condition deteriorated and eventually an ambulance was called at 3.35am on May 18 before she died at Warrington Hospital at 4.50am.

Forensic analysis found Ellie had taken PMA within a fatal range.

Officers found 15.5g of the drug in the freezer during a search of the house and a bottle of vodka which also contained PMA.

During police interview, the defendant denied supplying drugs to Ellie and another boy.

Mrs Wilde, defending, said the defendant thought Ellie had taken drugs before she had arrived at the house that day.

The trial continues.
