DEMOLITION of Time Square will start in April after the council appointed a demolition contractor to carry out work.

Celtic Technologies Ltd, based in Newton, will start work early next month, a project that is expected to take 21 weeks to complete.

It will allow work on the Bridge Street Quarter Regeneration project to provide a new market hall, a multiplex cinema, a number of family friendly restaurants, a new council office building and public square.

Following the demolition of the Time Square area, work will start building the first phase of the new development.

That will be a temporary market hall for traders to relocate toearly in 2017 in order that the current market hall can be demolished and then a new, 41, 000 sq. ft. market hall can be constructed.

The Bridge Street Quarter project will create up to 400 construction jobs and 400 new permanent jobs in the leisure, retail and restaurant sectors when the whole project is fully completed in 2019.

Regional director at Celtic Jon Freeman said: “Celtic-Englobe are very proud to be given the opportunity to bring more than 20 years of project delivery and innovation experience to bear on this landmark project.

"Especially one which will have such a positive impact on our community and the ongoing development of Warrington town centre.”
