A NEW way of keeping passengers safe on the train has been launched at Warrington Central.
British Transport Police is urging passengers to ‘save and send’ to its 61016 text number, the discreet way to report crime and incidents on your train.
The non-emergency number allows passengers to discreetly report any incidents of concern and receive a live response.
And since it launched as a pilot is has helped arrest people for anti-social behaviour, drunk and disorderly behaviour, vandalism and various other public order offences.
British Transport Police Chief Superintendent Peter Holden said: “Our 61016 number allows passengers to report any non emergency incident or behaviour that is making them feel uncomfortable.
“By saving the number to their phone, in the event of anything occurring that makes them feel vulnerable, they can report it inconspicuously and discreetly, and be reassured that BTP officers are ready to deal with the situation if necessary.
“It offers additional safety and security when travelling on the rail network and passengers and staff can be safe in the knowledge that assistance is just a text message away'.”
