TEN primary schools are set to provide a helping hand in the transformation of Bridge Street by assisting in a project to design artwork for hoardings that will surround the area.

The schools taking part in the art project include Grappenhall Heys Community Primary School, Latchford St James CE Primary School, St Monica’s Catholic Primary School and Culcheth Community Primary School.

Children will use their creative craft and artistic talent to design a picture that depicts their ideas for the new development to create a striking, visual interpretation of the location.

When open in 2018, the Bridge Street Quarter project will offer a new market hall, multiplex cinema, family restaurants, a new council office building and public square.

By engaging with the local community, Warrington Borough Council hopes to inspire and inform the public not only about the history of the market but also about its future.

After completion, the children’s designs will be printed onto the hoardings that will be displayed around the market site for all to see while work is taking place.

“Approaching the local community and local school children will enable people to not only learn about their local environment but to also take an active role in helping to improve it," said Mike Hannon, deputy council leader.

"The hoardings will be a wonderful addition while the area is brought back to life.”

Work will commence on the construction of the multi-million pound Bridge Street regeneration project in the coming weeks.
