The M6 at Thelwall Viaduct has ben opened again after a light goods vehicle carrying milk overturned, causing a closure for more than four hours.
The incident happened at 11.50am, today, Friday.
North West Motorway Police said the driver has suffered minor injuries.
There are still delays in the area as the motorway clears following the incident in which a milk wagon collided with a lorry.
The Highways Agency said granules were used to soak up milk on the motorway.
All four lanes on the southbound carriageway were closed.
Traffic was held at J20, Lymm.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue were also at the scene working to recover the vehicles.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire said: "A light goods vehicle containing 160 bottles of milk overturned on the M6 between junctions 21 and 21 southbound, following a road traffic collision with a heavy goods vehicle.
"The vehicle ended up on its side and was carrying approximately 160 bottles of milk which leaked.
"Crews used an environmental pack to stop the liquid from entering drainage and water systems."
