EVELYN Street Community Primary School is set to benefit from a funding boost which is aimed to get pupils to best possible start in life.

Although it is not been confirmed how much the school in Sankey Bridges is going to receive, shortlisted schools in the north west will get a slice of more than £800,000 of Government funds

The new funding will see schools partnered up with nurseries across the north west to offer support, drive up standards and share best practice.

It is part of a £5m nationwide package to help nurseries and local schools work together in the early years, deliver excellent care, and get children ready for school.

Minister for Childcare Sam Gyimah said: “We know the first few years of a child’s life can be make or break in terms of how well they go on to do at school and beyond – and the sharing of expertise and best practice is vital to driving innovation and raising standards.

“This is a fantastic example of local schools, nurseries and private providers pulling together to improve the fantastic services on offer to families, helping their children to thrive.”

The second wave of schools to receive the funding will be announced later this month.
