Fire crews were called to Sankey Green Island after a car became engulfed in flames following a fault with the vehicle earlier today, Thursday.
Firefighters rushed to the Pink Eye roundabout, which is just outside the centre, at around 3.50pm.
An ambulance attended the scene to carry out precautionary checks on a female and young child who were travelling in the car.
It understood they were shook up by the incident but did not suffer any major injuries.
One witness recalled how Good Samaritans immediacy came to their aid and helped to divert the traffic while they waited for emergency services to arrive.
