AN influx of parked vehicles on a street close to Morrisons, on Greenalls Avenue, could force the council to implement nearby collection points and traffic restrictions for future bin collections.

Binmen were unable to empty the waste on Stafford Road two weeks ago, and although the blue and black bins were emptied last week, new measures could still be introduced if the problem persists.

The issue began following Morrisons' introduction of a two-hour parking limit this month, with the vehicles in question believed to be owned by employees of offices close to the supermarket.

Latchford West Labour councillors Maureen McLaughlin and Les Morgan are currently assisting residents in ensuring the matter does not escalate.

The police have also been contacted and may issue penalty notices to any vehicles causing obstruction on the unadopted road, and other roads in proximity, including Gainsborough Road.

One resident who lives on the street, Lisa Mitchell, fears that issues surrounding bin collections are not the only effect of the cars which have 'plagued' the street.

"The council has said that they will keep coming at a time each week to avoid the parking issues, which is really good of them," she said.

"But it still makes it difficult for emergency services and delivery vans to gain access to the properties."

The council is keeping a close eye on the situation but has admitted that action may have to be taken.

"We appreciate residents’ concerns and we are committed to working with residents to make sure that bins are emptied on the scheduled collection day and we will continue to monitor this situation," said a council spokesman.

"If the problem persists, we could consider more formal options such as collection points or traffic restrictions but these would be as a last resort as we would look to resolve this as soon as possible."

Warrington South MP, David Mowat, who is based on Stafford Road, has raised also raised the matter with the council amid growing concerns.

“Access into Stafford Road has been difficult recently and I know that has inconvenienced a number of residents as well as disrupting the work of my parliamentary office," he said.

“This issue has been raised with Warrington Borough Council and I will be monitoring events closely to ensure that residents don’t lose access to refuse collections.”
