KIND-HEARTED volunteers put a smile on the faces of more than 100 families by organising a toy appeal last month.

The Central Neighbourhood team along with partners from the police, the Older Peoples’ Forum and Asda donated toys, gifts and money so that families could come along and choose gifts for their children.

The gifts were wrapped by staff, volunteers and Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture.

Food hampers were also delivered to families in need.

Cllr Kate Hannon said: “I want to thank everyone for organising this event which has saved each family £41 and with over 100 families that is a saving of over £4100.

As so many toys and food items were donated, the cost to hold this event was minimal compared to the impact it had for the local residents.”
