STAFF at Golden Square are flushed with pride after gaining a top award for their toilets.

The shopping centre has received the highest possible accolade in the loo of the year awards.

The aim of the awards, which were launched in 1987, is to shine a spotlight on toilets throughout the country and encourage the highest possible standards.

The Warrington retail hub, which is home to 140 big name brands, has been awarded the platinum standard following a £5,000 design refurbishment last year.

Ian Cox, Golden Square Centre director, said: “We have invested heavily in our toilets because we want our shoppers to know that we care about their experience with us.

“The makeover last year was all about making them a more inviting and family-friendly place to be.

“This is the first time we have entered the awards and to come back with the top award already has delighted both me and the dedicated staff who keep them looking so pristine.”

The shopping centre has a 19-strong team of cleaners working at the site with toilets checked and cleaned at least twice during every hour when the centre is open.

Ian added: “Next on our list is the family and baby change facilities and we have commissioned an artist to work on an underwater theme with us so we can really make it a fun place for children to enjoy.”
