A READER has accused officers of having 'one law for you, one law for the rest of us' after taking this picture of two police cars on double yellow lines.

Steve Groom took the pictures at 2pm yesterday, Thursday, on Marsh House Lane between the junctions of Rylands Drive and O'Leary Street and asked if the drivers had parked illegally.

Sergeant Dave Christmas, from Warrington Central NPU, replied saying there are circumstances where it is permissable for users of all emergency vehicles to park on double yellow lines.

He added: "The police officers from the two vehicles you have provided photographs of were attending at an address following a 999 call from a member of the public who requested urgent police assistance.

"Due to the nature of the incident the officers were attending, they have parked as close as they could to the address.

"They have parked half on the footpath to avoid causing too much of an obstruction to the road, whilst leaving ample space for pedestrians on the footpath.

"There are occasions when attending certain incidents where users of all emergency vehicles have to park in such a manner in order to provide the best possible response to the matter they are attending."

Chief inspector Rob Dickinson said: "Officers are legally allowed to park police vehicles on double yellow lines where there is a genuine policing purpose to do so.

"On this occasion, officers were attending a domestic incident that required urgent assistance."
