A LONG-STANDING feud between a businessman and the council over a tyre wall near to the Kingsway Bridge has taken another turn.

Last year, Patrick Moran, of Glazebrook Lane, was prosecuted by the council after he refused to take down the bale of tyres that had been constructed on a piece of land he owns at the junction of Farrell Street and Kingsway North.

During the court hearing at Warrington Magistrates Court in May, he was told that he had eight weeks to remove the tyres from the land.

But he has since launched an appeal to overturn the decision which is expected to be heard at Chester Crown Court in February.

During this time, the tyre wall has remained standing but Mr Moran has recently reduced the height of the tyre wall to less than one metre.

He said: "I have now just made the tyre wall legal.

"Because it is less than one metre, it does not matter what it is made of or what purpose it is serving - but I'm sure Warrington Borough Council will waste more money to try and prosecute me."

He added: "I would like people to realise the council has wasted a lot of money and they have not gone about things very well."

A spokesman for the council said they were aware of the changes to the tyre wall and they will still be taking action against Mr Moran for the tyre wall.
