ANGRY Risley residents have been offered hope after Warrington Borough Council confirmed it is looking for ways to prevent travellers from setting up camp on land in the area.
The land, on Silver Lane, has been an ongoing problem for the area since 2012 when the council were forced to apply for a court order to make the settlers leave.
“We do our best to move the travellers on when they do park up at this location," said a council spokesman.
"But it is public highway and for now has to remain open by law and this means that it is subject to repeat problems.
"However, the council is currently looking at options to effectively close this highway to prevent encampments but still remain open for pedestrians and cyclists."
Nearby residents spoke of the extent of the problem increasing earlier this month and urged the council to take action to put a stop to it.
One resident raised the potential solution of placing a barrier at the site to make it tougher for vehicles to get onto it.
