A SHAMELESS Great Sankey mum-of-four had to have a breathing mask put over her mouth to prevent her from spitting at police officers, a court heard.

Samantha Lund, aged 29, of Vose Close, appeared at Halton Magistrates Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to assaulting three police constables after a session of boozing until the early hours.

Police and paramedics were called to her friend's house on Shiggins Close on the morning of November 29 after Lund had been behaving aggressively and shouting.

When PC Alison Edwards tried to calm her down, Lund responded by slapping the officer on her hand before striking her in the torso.

Shortly after, Lund launched another attack on the officer - this time kicking PC Edwards in her knee, causing it to lock which resulted in 'immediate pain'.

The court heard PC Michael Luckett then tried to control Lund, who is currently on a supervision order for a previous assault charge, but his efforts were met with the woman swinging out and hitting him in the neck.

Lund was taken to Warrington Hospital thereafter, where she spat on PC Steven Whittaker's face, and then tried to again minutes later, but missed, before being laid on her front and having the breathing mask put over her mouth.

Prosecuting, Alison Warburton, said: "She screamed at officers and paramedics, the paramedics thought she might have been on drugs.

"While being escorted by police, she used foul language and spat at officers."

Defence barrister, Simon Dunn, claimed that Lund's personal history with domestic violence was part of the problem for her criminal actions.

"She is very unsettled and concerned about her children," he said.

"She tells me that she has been a victim of domestic violence with five previous partners and talks about witnessing her mum being hit by two partners.

"Her GP saw her yesterday and the view is that she is depressed.

"Abstinence has to be the way forward to prevent her acting this way again."

Sentencing, District Judge Bridget Knight, decided against a custodial sentence and offered Lund with a 'tailor-made sentence' to prevent such offences in the future.

"I want you to work with the probation service, the probation is the last chance saloon.

"Before you reach for the drink, you need to save yourself."

Lund was ordered to pay PC Edwards £100 compensation, PC Luckett £50, PC Whittaker £50 and sentenced to a community order for each of the charge, which will run for two years.
