WORK with the Warrington Wolves is among the research named world class at the University of Chester.

Staff at the university, which has a based in Padgate where the Wolves train, were celebrating after a significant amount of work was named world leading by national Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014.

All academic areas submitted were judged to include internationally excellent research, with areas such as leisure and tourism, education, maths, dentistry and sports named world leading.

For the first time, the major research exercise assessed the impact of the research outside of academic institutions.

And the Department of Sport and Exercise Science’s research work into managing fatigue and recovery in team sports which involved working with Warrington Wolves was especially praised.

Professor Tim Wheeler, Vice-Chancellor of the university, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the outcome of the REF 2014. The results represent a significant improvement in the university’s overall research profile, with almost all of the areas assessed being judged to include world-leading research.

“Colleagues submitted some excellent work and should be justifiably proud of what they have achieved and the role that they have played in this continuing success story.”
