A CHOIR who have performed with Rod Stewart, Peter Gabriel and Mike and the Mechanics are set to perform for a second time at Golden Square.

Warrington British Sign Language Signing Choir will take the stage on Saturday after a successful show last week.

Their previous appearance raised almost £250 for a Christmas party for the children who attend Warrington Deaf Club so the group are hoping for a repeat performance to help them fund future events for their members.

Deputy chairman Wil Baker said: “It’s quite hypnotic when you see the whole choir moving and signing together. We get quite a lot of people stopping who would normally not notice a choir singing.

“There is music in the background and the leader has to be able to hear so that the timings are right and then everyone just follows them with the signs.

“The choir came about as a way of helping keep the Deaf club open and raise funds and awareness for the club.”

The performance is part of a programme of festive music at Golden Square.

Music will be provided by the Salvation Army Choir on the same Saturday and again on Christmas Eve, while Warrington West Concert Band will appear today, Thursday, and a church choir called Hope For Justice will sing on Saturday too.
