TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Westbrook councillor who sadly died earlier this month.

David Earl, aged 68, represented Westbrook on Warrington Borough Council from 2004 to 2012 and was also a member of Burtonwood and Westbrook Parish Council from 2003 to June this year when he had to retire due to ill health.

He had spent much of the last year in the Walton Centre in Liverpool after a severe injury in November last year following a fall at his home in Callands.

Two weeks before his death he moved to a care home where he caught an infection.

The former youth and community worker, who also worked for engineering companies in the town including MWH, was a member of the council’s executive board for two years and was particularly proud of the part he played in setting up the Contact Centre.

He was also a director of the bus company Network Warrington, a governor of two schools and a regular volunteer at both the YMCA and the foodbank.

Liberal Democrat leader on Warrington Council, cllr Ian Marks said: “Dave was an excellent councillor and a truly caring member of the community.

"He championed the cause of people less fortunate than himself with tremendous enthusiasm.

"Many of his activities were not known to colleagues because he didn’t make a fuss but just got on with the task of helping others.

"He felt strongly about the environment and was an active member of the local ‘Clean up my Community’ Group.

"He had just returned from a litter pick when he fell so badly at his home.

"It was typical of Dave that he was helping others right up to the end. We shall miss him greatly.”
