AN office worker from the town has stepped forward to help save the life of a Widnes dad.

As previously reported in the Runcorn and Widnes World, fork lift truck driver Peter Mark, aged 32, has a rare kidney and liver disease – and faces surgery alone if his new Australian wife and baby are refused permission to stay in Britain.

After seeing the appeal Phil Day, from the town centre, has offered to donate one of his kidneys to save his life.

The 32-year-old said: “I was so touched by his story, I want to help.

“I was so moved by the way his wife might now be sent back to Australia. He has had to give up work and might not be able to spend time with his family.

“I am single and fit and healthy. I know I would have to be screened and spend up to 12 weeks in recovery.

“You can live perfectly well with one kidney.”

Peter, his wife Shauna, aged 22, and their 10-month-old daughter Lylah are living with his parents in Hale Road.

Peter said: “This is a really wonderful gesture. I want to thank this man.

“I am not on the transplant list yet but I am pleased that this is raising awareness.”

He said he has been inundated with offers of help with an appeal in Australia having already raised £4,500 dollars.

Peter, who now spends three hours a day, six days a week on dialysis at St Helens Hospital, added: “The support we have received is amazing.

“People are doing events for me.

“My little girl and my wife are keeping me going. You have to remain upbeat or you would slowly fade.”
