THE final stages of the demolition of the old Wilderspool Stadium would have been a sad sight for many – but one resident has hit out at the deconstruction work for causing noise pollution and ‘house shakes’.

Gomitre Gopaul, of Fletcher Street, claims work on the site began as early as 6.30am on some days and wreaked havoc on him during his study week.

Although notified of the work – being carried out by development company Langtree – the University of Chester student feels as though residents were not given a true description of what would be taking place.

“The deconstruction work is causing major sound pollution and causing my house to experience house shakes each day that they are working,” he said.

“I expect there to be some noise but not as bad as it is – it is really hard to live with.

“My mum also had a week off work to rest but she has been unable to do so with all the work that has been going on.”

With the work taking place throughout the day, Gomitre claims that his studies have somewhat suffered, though he has done all he can to go about his tasks as usual.

“I tried to sit down and get some work done but with all the noise going on, it was impossible,” he added.

“It isn’t great, as I thought I would have time to get things done but you can’t really live with the noise pollution.”

A spokesman for Langtree said: “The workers don’t get on site until 7.30am so work probably starts just after that.

“The contractor is in touch with most of the residents and doesn’t get any complaints.”

Work has been completed in the past week – sparking a new era for the site, although plans for what will replace the stadium are still under wraps.
