A RAVE and hardcore DJ hopes to make his breakthrough – by remixing a One Direction pop hit.

Jamie McGrath, of Poplars Avenue, Orford, entered Talenthouse's competition to transform the boy band's single Steal My Girl into a track you might hear at a club.

The 24-year-old DJs at rave and hardcore nights up and down the country under the name JDM but he admits that he has a soft spot for One Direction.

Jamie, who used FL Studio to create the track, said: "I like the fact they were on The X Factor and they were just five young boys who got somewhere by working really hard.

"The songs are upbeat and always have a meaning to them which is what I really like."

In fact, from dubstep to rock, Jamie reckons he can get an idea for a remix from anywhere.

"You can find inspiration in any music," he added.

"I can even hear an advert and come up with an idea for a track."

If Jamie wins the One Direction competition the band will share his track on social media. There will also be opportunities for radio play and a cash prize of £1,500.

Runners-up in second and third will bag £500 and see their remixes shared by One Direction while fourth prize is also £500 but determined by a public vote.

Jamie, who is inspired by Manchester DJ and producer Modulate, said: "To win would be brilliant as it is the chance to get my music heard in the right places.

"I could talk about music all day so it would be life changing to win. I've worked really hard to come up with something I'd like to hear in the charts myself.

"I've done this to show a big music label what potential there is in up-and-coming producers. It would be fantastic to hear my remix in a club and see people dancing to it."

Jamie works as a business mobile advisor at BT Gemini but took a week off to create the track. He got up at 6am each day and kept working until 10pm.

"I was driving my girlfriend Stephanie mad," he added.

Jamie is a self-taught music producer and has been making tracks since he was 17.

His first track was called Ghost Stories in which he recorded samples of people screaming at York Dungeon.

Jamie fell in love with music production after hearing DJ Expression's remix of V-Star's Brighter Days.

"That was the song that got me into it," he said.

"It's really uplifting and that's what I like about music – it can change your mood. If I'm having a bad day I can put music on and it puts me in a different zone."

- Jamie will find out how he got on in Talenthouse's One Direction competition tomorrow, Friday.
