THE moving story of a transplant survivor from Chapelford has inspired a mysterious guerrilla artist to create a new piece of art to spread a life-saving message.

Teaching assistant Holly Shaw, who had to wait three and a half year for a new kidney, is now the proud owner of a painting by the Warrington Urban Artist (WUA) which features puzzle pieces to depict the concept of organ donation.

Although the pair has never met, they struck up an unusual friendship after Holly found another piece of work by the artist during an art dump - later sharing her story of survival with WUA

Within an hour WUA told Holly of an idea and the piece of art was completed half an hour later.

The 27-year-old said: "I love the mystery that surrounds the Banksy-esque local artist. I wasn’t expecting them to create the piece of art so quick or that they would offer it to me free of charge.

"I love how WUA has used puzzle pieces to depict the concept of organ donation."

The WUA, whose identity and even their gender remains unknown, said they were delighted to have the opportunity to work with Holly on the piece of art work.

They said: "After she told me her story, I thought it would be lovely gesture to make a one off piece of art for her.

"Being a donor will help other people live a better and more prolonged life. More people should be a donor-  I mean I am."

Holly now hopes the work will help to inspire others to sign up to the Organ Donor Register.

She added: "Signing the Organ Donor Register is free, it takes two minutes, and it could save someone's life. My life was changed because someone made that decision.

"I want to thank the WUA for taking time to promote a cause so close to my heart and hopefully succeed in saving someone’s life along the way.”

Currently, there are more than 6,000 people waiting for a transplant and around 1,000 of those will die this year due to the lack of donor organs available.

Holly said: “I hope my story and the generosity of the WUA will raise awareness of the importance of organ donation."
