DISNEY creates magical worlds.

But you do not have to go to Walt Disney Studios in California to be swept away to the fantasy realm.

For Disney Channel’s first live action show to be set in the UK was filmed on our doorstep in Woolston.

Mystery adventure series Evermoor tells the story of Tara Crossley, an American teenager played by Naomi Sequeira who is uprooted from her city home in the US for a new start in rural England.

Stately home Arley Hall, near Northwich, was used to portray the exterior of Evermoor Manor, but all the sets were created in a studio in Hardwick Grange.

It took the BAFTA award- winning production company, Lime Pictures, seven weeks to build, starting in March.

Weekend was invited for a tour on Friday and saw “the beacon”, which is a mysterious lighthouse, and a magical tapestry which is used by a group of white witches to predict the future.

Elsewhere the set is a cross between old English manor and Disney fantasy.

The Lime Pictures team has created a replica of Arley Hall’s doors which lead to Evermoor Manors’s entrance hall and living room, and Weekend also saw the kitchen and one of the colourful bedrooms.

Rebecca Hodgson, head of drama at Liverpool-based Lime Pictures, said: “It was a creative project for the team because you don’t often get to make a tapestry that tells the future.

“It required designing and then CGI elements. Then the costume designers had to decide things like what colour capes people were going to wear to what the lace was going to be like.

“This has been seen in 160 countries, so it puts Liverpool, Warrington and Arley Hall on the map.”

Lime Pictures is the company behind Hollyoaks and The Only Way Is Essex, and the crew chose to create a studio for Evermoor in Woolston as it is close to Arley Hall and Liverpool.

Tim Compton, co-creator of Evermoor, said: “It started at Arley Hall which had the right look and feel for Evermoor , and then we needed a studio that was close by and this place fitted.”

Julian Perkins, production designer, said: “As a designer these type of things don’t come up that often and the chance to do something fantastical and set in a historical place is challenging but also a privilege.”

For many of Evermoor’s young cast it is also one of their first big opportunities on screen.

But the mystery adventure could prove to be their breakthrough as the show is being aired in 160 countries while former Disney Channel productions have launched the careers of the likes of Zac Efron and Selena Gomez.

The teenage stars will also be acting alongside a seasoned cast including Georgie Glen, from Les Miserables , Dan Fredenburgh, from The Bourne Ultimatum , Clive Rowe, from Doctor Who , Belinda Stewart-Wilson, from The Inbetweeners, Sharon Morgan, from Torchwood , and Margaret Cabourn- Smith, from Miranda .

“I don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet that we’re sharing a screen with people that we watched growing up,” said 18-year-old Georgia Lock, who plays Bella and previously presented Friday Download.

Finney Cassidy lives in Manchester and has appeared in productions at the Royal Exchange and The Lowry. The 19-year-old plays Cameron He added: “A lot of TV work goes to London and obviously to America so it’s really nice for it to be filmed here.

“You look at the outside and it just looks like a bland studio and you step inside and it’s a different world.

“Disney is such a good platform to work with and obviously we have all seen actors who have gone on to do movies.”

Tim Compton, co-creator of Evermoor, said: “A lot of us have kids so the idea of creating something for children that is really distinctive and inspiring and something that I would have loved at their age is fantastic.”

- Evermoor will be shown in its entirety on Disney Channel UK on Friday, November 28, at 6pm.
