WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones is calling for motorists to drive safely - after 14 deaths in the last year of cyclists and pedestrians.

Speaking out as part of Road Safety Week, Mrs Jones said: "Sadly, we have seen 14 cyclists and pedestrians killed or seriously injured in Warrington North on our roads in the past year.

“Safer roads are needed for more people to travel by foot or bike.

"The impacts go beyond those killed and injured.

"Everyone is affected by road danger.

"Speeding traffic is the most common concern in our communities, a big barrier to walking and cycling.

“I am calling on people to look out for each other.

"Whether you be a pedestrian, cyclist or motorist, we need to respect each other on the roads.

"It is time the Government ended their complacency on road safety and reversed their decision to axe targets to cut the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads. “
