WHEN he arrived in the country from India, Chapelford resident Summit Tuli made it his mission to unite the British and Indian communities together.

After forming the Indian British Group of Warrington, three years ago, after arriving, his dream is slowly but surely becoming a reality.

The group celebrated Diwali last month, otherwise known as the 'festival of lights', with a turnout of more than 200 people, including Mayor Clr Ted Finnegan, who was chief guest.

"We are very proud of what we have been doing in the area over the last couple of years," said Mr Tuli.

"Believe it or not, we actually had more than 200 people at our first event when we had that a couple of years ago.

"The goal is to bring Indian and British cultures together to help each learn more about each other's culture.

"All of the people involved are from Warrington and we just want to bring people together and are helped by our many volunteers."

Planning for next year has already begun, with a trip currently being planned for March.

"We organise our events on Facebook to let people know what is happening," added Mr Tuli.
