BLUEPRINTS for a new multi-million pound home for Beamont Collegiate Academy have been unveiled after the original plans were stopped in their tracks by the council's planning committee earlier this year.

Principal Andy Moorcroft said the concerns raised by residents and planning officers in response to the school's first design have been taken on board and new plans have now been submitted.

Mr Moorcroft said: "Wates, the builders, have put a lot of time and effort into addressing the concerns of some local residents and have worked hard to ensure the new building will not have a negative impact upon any of our neighbours.

"There is a danger that we could lose the funding if plans are not accepted so I am hopeful that the new submission will prove that concerns have been taken seriously and will demonstrate that best possible use of the funding available given the constraints of our site.

"We are hoping the plans will be considered by the planning committee prior to Christmas so work can commence early in the new year.”

At the planning meeting in August, the blueprints were refused due the ‘unacceptable impact’ on living conditions of nearby residents, with some describing the effect as ‘overbearing and oppressive’.

Under the new plans the building has been moved further away from the houses and additional hedgerows and trees are to be planted.

Full planning permission is needed in order for the construction work on the new two storey building to start and the demolition of the existing school at its current site on Long Lane in Orford.

The design for the school, which converted into an academy in September 2013, also includes safe access to the wider campus which includes Warrington Collegiate and the Future Tech Studio School.

Deputy leader Warrington Borough Council Clr Mike Hannon is also backing the plans and believes they should be given the green light to go ahead.
