POLICE are investigating a blaze on Orford Lane that may been started deliberately.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue were called to reports of a fire near to an address on Orford Lane at 10.20pm on Monday night.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze which caused minor smoke damage to the wall of the building and entrance, and there were no injuries.

A joint investigation has now begun between the fire service and Cheshire Police to establish the cause of the fire, which officers believe maybe suspicious.

DC Richard Kennedy, said: "While the fire was controlled and extinguished effectively, we would very much like to establish the cause.

"We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously.

"There was no major damage from the fire however we would like to speak to anyone with information on what could have potentially been a much more serious incident."

Paul Jackson, station manager at Warrington Fire Station, said: "Fire is so unpredictable and can quickly spread and lead to devastating consequences.

"It appears this fire may have been started deliberately and I would appeal to anyone that may have information to contact police as the result could have been much worse."
