BLUEPRINTS to build the town's first University Technical College have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council.

The plans to erect the multi-million pound six storey building on the former site of Dallam Day Centre in the town centre reveal that the University Technical College Warrington (UTCW) will accommodate 620 pupils and 47 members of staff.

The UTCW, which will be located off Dallam Lane, will specialise in engineering and energy for pupils aged 14 to 19.

The proposed building will also include engineering workshops, which have been designed in collaboration with energy and engineering employers, the University of Chester and Warrington Borough Council.

If the plans are given the green light, the UTCW is expected to open in September.

Lynda Moore, deputy provost at the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester and chairman of the Warrington UTCW Project Steering Group, said: “The designs for the College building are very bold and exciting.

"But the real excitement for everyone involved in this fantastic project is the chance for young people to become the scientists and engineers of tomorrow.

“Warrington’s budding scientists and engineers are invited to see the new University Technical College Warrington at a drop-in session to be held tomorrow, Thursday, at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub between 10am and 2pm.

“The futuristic design of the new building will be on display this event, which aims to inform young people about the opportunities open to them in the future at the UTCW and the potential for their career prospects.”

The proposal is part of a wider plan as part of the council's £190m Stadium Quarter project.

The Business Incubator is the first development to begin to take shape on land after the ground breaking ceremony took place earlier this year.

The five storey £8.5m hub, which will include offices, research and development facilities and a cafe, will be launched as an ideal workplace for up to 100 start-up businesses in the town.

The Business Incubator is expected to open next summer.
