THE executive board member for children and young people, Jean Carter, has denied that jobs at the town's children's centres are at risk.

Due to the planned changes to the centres, a number of workers have opted to take voluntary redundancy but there will be no compulsory redundancies, it has been claimed.

It has also been revealed that there are a number of job posts on offer at the children's centres in the town as a result of this.

Under the restructure, which was approved by the council's executive board last week, six sites will lose their status as official children's centres.

But Clr Carter wanted to set the record straight that there still will be services available despite the redesign, which aims to save £238,000.

She added: "We want to reassure parents that the services will continue. It may not be the local authority who provides the service but the services will still be available."
