RADIOGRAPHERS at Warrington Hospital have followed their fellow NHS colleagues and walked out this morning over pay.
Members of the Society of Radiographers have been taking part in the nationwide strike from 9am to 1pm due to an 'ongoing pay freeze' and because the government rejected a recommended one per cent pay rise for staff in England.
All emergency imaging is still being provided in A&E throughout the strike.
A spokesman added: "In order to sustain a high quality radiology service, it must comprise the most talented people who put the patient first before anything else and if pay continues to be below a reasonable (not fat cat!) standard, retention of this talent is going to be poor and the standard of care will diminish considerably."
The Department of Health said it was 'disappointed' by the radiographers' strike and said a larger pay rise would risk front-line jobs.
