A DOG owner could face a maximum of five years in prison after his American Bulldog viciously attacked a 51-year-old woman.
Brian Jevons, of Gregory Close, Old Hall, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a dangerous dog at Halton Magistrates Court.
The court heard how the dog, named Tia, attacked the victim on Old Hall Road, which left her needing hospital treatment.
The incident took place in close proximity to a primary school on September 12 at around 1.20pm.
The 38-year-old said he was sorry for what happened and that he had been unable to put a muzzle on the dog after it had escaped from his home.
It was claimed by the defendant, who is currently serving a suspended sentence, that the dog had been let out by the police who had raided his house earlier that day.
District judge Bridget Knight sent the case to Warrington Crown Court after she decided her sentencing powers were not sufficient at Halton Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
