ONE month into a new school year is particularly special for the new head at a Latchford School.

Beverley Scott-Herron has taken up the role at Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School, becoming their first female leader since the school was founded in 1526.

She took over from John Sharples, who retired in the summer.

Speaking of her new role Mrs Scott-Herron said: "I am very proud of our school, our Christian ethos, strong values and high academic standards which support the very highest expectations we have of our students.

"We place our young people at the centre in all we do, investing in them so they feel encouraged and motivated to excel.

"Our vision, values and ethos underpins every aspect of school life, as we seek to provide each student with the opportunity to attain their full academic potential and the skills and qualifications to access further education and the world of work.

"We are currently in the process of a cosmetic refurbishment to ensure the students have a vibrant learning environment which they respect. We have had apprentices from Barclay's, parents/carers, staff and governors supporting us with this project. However, it is a work in progress and we would always welcome more help.

"Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School is evolving and the new leadership team is committed to ensuring that the school provides the highest quality education for every student. The raising of standards and expectations is the foundation to this and something which we are focussing on at the moment.

"We are a fantastic school, with wonderful students and supportive parents/carers, who deserve the very best."
