HAVE you ever needed a DNA test in a hurry?

Well thanks to a new deal, a Warrington based laboratory has become the first to offer kits for £4.99 on the high street - returned in 24 hours with a £99 lab fee.

Westbrook's AlphaBiolabs has teamed up with Home Bargains.

The kits will be available to buy from 290 stores across the country.

It means a full DNA test, returned in 24 hours, will cost £104.

David Thomas, director of the firm, said: "AlphaBiolabs is constantly looking for innovative new ways of reaching out to members of society who need their services most and this partnership with Home Bargains allows the company to reach people who were previously inaccessible.

"Even in these days of advanced technology and the internet, many people prefer to trust their high street retailer, when dealing with such a sensitive subject as DNA testing."

The company already does 24 hour testing, providing results for the Jeremy Kyle show on ITV for the past nine years.

Mr Thomas believes by extending the offer to members of the public, it will make his company unique.

"I am sure we are the only company in the world doing this, even America.

"The science is there, we just need the resources to provide the service."

To cope with demand the company is currently investing £1million into new advanced analytical equipment and also has a recruitment drive.

DNA kits are used to determine a range of biological relationships including paternity, maternity, sibling and grandparentage.
