AFTER weekly blood tests, 60 sessions of infused chemotherapy and an eight-month emotional rollercoaster, an Old Hall family were well and truly ready for a holiday.

And thanks to the kindness of a complete stranger who nominated them after they raised thousands of pounds to beat blood cancer, they have just returned from a dream trip to Disneyland Paris.

The Wright family were selected to go on the break, funded annually by blood cancer charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, after their son Jenson was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic lymphoma last year, aged four.

Mum Carolyn said they were 'absolutely ecstatic' to fly out last month, particularly after residing themselves to the fact they probably would not be able to go away again as a family until Jenson was eight and finished his maintenance treatment.

She added: "After finding a strange lump under his chin, a series of tests, scans and a biopsy officially confirmed the news and our world fell apart.

"The last eight months have been what can only be described as the most emotionally draining, gruelling, tiring and most of all heart-breaking times of our lives.

“To date Jenson has endured numerous treatments at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

"He has had 14 trips to theatre which have included 11 lumbar punctures, two bone marrow biopsies and a biopsy of the tumour.

"As well as this there have been six blood transfusions, three platelet transfusions, weekly blood tests, seven weeks of strong steroids, 60 sessions of infused chemotherapy and daily oral doses of chemotherapy at home.

"The trip to Disneyland gave us all the chance to enjoy a memorable time and forget about the treatment Jenson is receiving."

Carolyn added Callands Primary School pupil Jenson particularly enjoyed having lunch with the characters and the holiday gave him the chance to 'wipe out the hard times' he had endured over the last eight months.

Rebecca Andlaw, special events coordinator at Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research said: “The awe and excitement of being in Disney was evident not only in the children’s faces but their parents too. "Having the opportunity to spend time getting to know children like Jenson and his family, sharing their experiences and hearing why the trip is so important to them, was priceless.

"I’m delighted we could play a part in creating lasting memories for such a deserving family.”
