WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones says a failure to keep up with inflation means school children in the borough are losing £91 a year in Government grant money.

Figures obtained by the MP in a parliamentary answer state that since the Government made changes to the direct schools grant last year there has been no increase in funding for Warrington schools.

She said: "Cash per pupils has remained the same but figures I have obtained show that, if our grant had kept up with inflation, each pupil in Warrington would have £91 more spent on their education."

"Our funding has stood still yet the price of supplies and equipment for schools, like everything else, is going up.

"We know that people's pay is not matching prices under this government. Now we know that our children are losing out as well."
