GETTING a healthier lifestyle was the aim of a 100-day Global Corporate Challenge (GCC) for staff at Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT).

In May 98 GGHT employees joined a global movement of almost 300,000 participants from 185 countries and during that time have between them got to an average daily step count of 14,258, replacing the typical 3,000-daily step count of an average sedentary worker.

GGHT collectively clocked up 132,973,069 steps, the equivalent to burning off 21,377 slices of cake. GGHT team, ‘Living Dangerously’ took top honours as the company’s most active team, ranking 1,796 out of 40,768 teams on the global leader board.

Their daily step average was also impressive, clocking in at 19,501 - equivalent to 9.5 miles every day of the 100 day event.

One of GGHT’s teams, ‘Can't Do it, Won't Do It’ made some serious changes to their lifestyle and routine, topping the chart as the Most Improved team for GGHT.

Team captain Darren McLoughlin said: “I tried to ensure the team not only beat the daily step average but also exceeded it. We have also built on the success of GCC and have been inspired by our improved fitness to attempt to complete the Yorkshire 3 Peak Challenge in aid of GGHT’s corporate charity, St Rocco's Hospice.”

GGHT chief executive, Peter Mercer added: “We are so proud of our employees’ achievements, and will support them in every step of their continued journey towards healthier, happier and more active lives.

"Our hope is that the GCC finish line is just the start of a new beginning for our employees who now feel reenergised and empowered to continue their journey to better health long-term.”
