Nick Bent, Labour's Warrington South MP candidate, spoke of the impact transport has across the borough at his party's conference.

The parliamentary hopeful spoke in front of thousands of delegates on issues including road tolls on the Mersey Gateway, congestion from the swing bridges and the need for a new train station in Warrington West.

His speech was also shown on the BBC.

And as part of his turn Nick took the chance to quote the man he calls his political hero - John Smith.

In his last public speech as Leader of the Labour Party before his death in 1994, John Smith spoke about what motivated him to get elected and to secure the return of a Labour Government: "The chance to serve, that is all we ask."

The transport debate was introduced by Mary Creagh MP, shadow transport secretary and she has agreed to come to meet Warrington Borough Council to discuss how to help tackle the town's transport challenges.

In his speech Mr Bent said: "Transport is the lifeblood of Warrington but our arteries are getting dangerously clogged and the Tory MP has been hopeless on transport issues and has moved out of town to Macclesfield. I am convinced that road, rail and bus users would get a better deal from a Labour Government."
