CLUBBERS could soon be dancing to the beats of a 12-year-old from Appleton.

Ed Hardy may be barely out of primary school but his track could become a fixture in the house music scene after impressing industry experts in Switzerland.

The former St Monica’s RC Primary School spent just half an hour creating the 30 second demo in his bedroom.

But when he put the track on SoundCloud it caught the ear of Zurich’s electronic dance music (EDM) record label, 5howtime Music.

A contract has been drawn up for Ed to develop his demo into a full length track which 5howtime will then put out professionally.

But they had no idea how old he was.

Ed’s mum Jayne said: “We thought he was mucking around when he told us at first.

“They didn’t know it was a 12-year-old making music in his bedroom which was funny.

“He’s only got a demo at the moment but he’s definitely got a bit of talent. We’re very proud.”

Ed, a member of Warrington Youth Orchestra, has been using music software FL Studio and Ableton Live to make tracks since he was nine.

He added: “I was just playing around with a programme on my computer.

“I put out a random demo and the next thing I knew they were sending my dad a contract. It was a real surprise.

“When I was 10 I really started getting into dubstep music like Xilent so I decided to have a go myself.

“I spent a lot of time watching tutorials on YouTube as you can really teach yourself anything these days.”

Ed usually spends birthday and Christmas money on new bits of EDM kit like the Novation Launchpad, a high-tech touch controller for mixing.

His music even impressed his brother Nicolas’s friends.

He said: “I had my 18th birthday party at the end of August and all my friends said they liked his music.”

Jayne added: “It’s a passion and an obsession.”

It might be in the blood as Ed’s dad is Gabriel an IT specialist and a house music fan too.

Jayne said: “His technical abilities have blown everyone away at school. He’s doing the same thing these Creamfields DJs do.”

Ed added: “My dream job would be anything from making music to mastering. Anything in music production really.

“I’d love to perform at Creamfields or Tomorrowland in Belgium.”
