DEVELOPERS say there is still no date for when Mr Smith's will be demolished.

The former cinema and nightclub is set to be knocked down despite a campaign by residents to save it.

LPC Living is managing the site.

A spokesman said: "We’re still in the process of arranging for various services to be disconnected so at this stage aren’t able to confirm a date when demolition of the building will commence."

Demolition of the derelict club, which shot to fame in the 1980s, can legally take place at any time up until August next year.

Last month, campaigners were offered the chance to pitch idea for what the building can be used for following a meeting with LPC.

Protestors, lead by Lymm resident Diane Kerfoot, are trying to drum up support from Warrington Borough Council, English Heritage, and the National Lottery.

Community groups have also been asked to contact campaigners, who want to turn the Art Deco building into a hub for community projects and outreach work.

LPC said it is still open to discussing proposals.

The spokesman added: "We’re more than happy to meet with them again should they be able to propose a commercially viable suggestion for the building.
