DONATIONS for Cheshire Dogs Home are still coming in from across the country as one group travelled more than 130 miles to do their bit for the cause.

More than 100 dogs were moved to the kennels in Grappenhall following a blaze at the charity's sister site in Manchester.

Stroud District Council, Teckels Animals Sanctuary in Whitminster, All Pets Pet Shop in Stonehouse, Tesco in Cam and Stroud RSPCA in Gloucestershire opened their doors to accept donations from the public and were so overwhelmed with the response, council officers had to hire a van to drop off the donations.

Alexandra Myrie and Shelley Coles from Stroud Council made the near six hour round trip on Friday after a van company offered one of their vehicles for free and a pet service in the area covered the cost of the petrol.

Animal welfare officer Alexandra added the generosity of residents donating blankets, dog food, cages and treats was 'heart warming'.
