IN the past ten years, Yvonne Dooley has flown over an active volcano in New Zealand, climbed over the top of the O2 Arena in London and braved great heights in a hot-air balloon over Cheshire.

But last weekend the 62-year-old from Great Sankey proved the daredevil inside of her has no bounds when she took part in a zip wire challenge off the Silver Jubilee Bridge in Runcorn.

The fearless mum of two said: "I saw this being done in Manchester and thought it would be fun. Maybe I am a little mad but who dares wins.

"As I get older and now my kids are grown up I have just been thinking why not. While I can I want to try and experience new things so that's what I'm doing."

But the adrenaline-fuelled zip wire was not just about ticking items off her the bucket list but Yvonne decided to push her nerves to the limit on Sunday in aid of a charity close to her heart.

Her husband, John, was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2010 and Yvonne, who is now retired from the Department of Work and Pensions, thought this would be a fitting way to raise as much cash as possible for Parkinson's UK.

For the past 40 years, the charity has been working to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's with one person in every 500 diagnosed with the condition.

Yvonne, who added that she would not have been able to complete the zip wire without the support of her sponsors, said: "There was a crisis a while back and I was on the phone to them straightaway and they were just great.

"Any money I raise will go into research and hopefully the local community so that they can carry on with the incredible work they do."
