A REPORT into the £10m University Technical College Warrington has highlighted its core strengths following a public consultation.

Links with employers, the technical skills and training on offer and the opportunities to progress to university, an apprenticeship or employment are some of the strong points listed in the survey.

The findings from the recent Public Consultation Report shows that of the 530 respondents, 98 per cent of parents and adults and 94 per cent of employers believe that it is important for the young people of Warrington that UTCW offers an alternative education for 14 to 19 year olds, with a focus on energy and engineering.

The Government-funded engineering and energy specialist college, which is sponsored by the University of Chester and supported by Warrington Borough Council, has already secured the backing of 35 employers, ranging from FTSE100 listed organisations to SME consultancies.

Principal Catherine Collier said the report 'demonstrates the support we have from all sections of the community'.

She added: "It is clear that the UTCW is very much in demand and will have a significant impact on the futures of young people, employers and therefore the overall economic prosperity of Warrington.

"We have a very clear mandate in going forward.”

The UTCW is set to be built on land on Dallam Lane and open next year - although the plans have yet to be finalised.

For further information, prospective students and parents are invited to attend a meeting on the September 25 at Orford Jubilee Hub from 7pm to 9pm.
